The Lawyer’s letter, which was at the instance of Hon. Igwe, Chairman of the party in Ohaji/Egbema L.G.A, stated that his Client was arrested by Hon. Anthony-Ahaneku at People’s Club Hotel, Owerri, while in a meeting with his colleagues from other Local Government Areas of the State to discuss on their welfare packages. The letter read inter alia: “While the aforesaid meeting was ongoing, you stormed the said venue in a Gestapo style, with a retinue of Police men and arrested our client in full glare of the public, and whisked him away to the Imo State Police Command Headquarters, Owerri, Imo State”. The Rights activist further stated that Hon. Anthony-Ahaneku, aside insulting and assaulting Hon. Igwe, later took him to the AA State Secretariat and locked him up in the toilet without an escape route. The letter further reads: “In the light of the foregoing, we, on our client’s behalf, demand an apology, which must be given equal publicity just as the style you arrested our client, and the sum of N50,000,000.00 (Fifty Million Naira Only) being compensation to assuage the mental and psychological stress you deliberately inflicted on our client within 21 days of the receipt of this Solicitor’s letter. We strongly feel that wise counsel prevails in the interest of the party to avoid the costly effect and inconvenience of litigation”.]]>
