Lagos State government has arraigned three men, Bolu Wasiu, Nwokochi Chinonso, and Akintutu Olaleye before an Ikeja High Court for alleged murder and belonging to an unlawful society.

The trio was arraigned before Justice Oyindamola Ogala on a two-count charge bordering on murder and membership of an unlawful society.

The state’s counsel, Uju Nwogazi, informed the court that the defendants were arrested on December 23, 2021 at Ketu, in the Alapere area of Lagos.

She alleged that the first and second (Wasiu and Chinonso) defendants allegedly murdered one Jaju, by hitting him on the head with a plank.

The prosecutor further told the court that the third defendant (Olaleye) and the others (Wasiu and Chinonso) allegedly belonged to a society known as the Eiye Confraternity.

Their offences contravened Sections 213 and 42 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Nwogazi prayed the court for a trial date, in view of their not guilty plea.

The defence counsel, Kevin Okereke, did not object to the commencement of trial. Justice Ogala asked the third defendant (Olaleye) how long he had been in custody. He responded that he had been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for a year and two months.

The judge subsequently adjourned the matter till February 5, 2024 for trial and issued witness summons.
