*As “Obi Applauds Police Swift Response” — Urges Equal Urgency for All Abduction Cases

The operatives of the Lagos State Police Command arrested two more suspects, Agbojule Smart, 27, and Keleke Michael, 30, in connection with the abduction of Mrs. Folasade Odumosu, the wife of a former Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Hakeem Odumosu. The suspects were apprehended by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police Special Squad while attempting to leave Lagos State.

Mrs. Odumosu was kidnapped by four masked gunmen from her residence in Arepo, Ogun State, on Thursday, January 16, 2024. Less than a week later, she was rescued by the police in a gun battle with the criminals in the swampy area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their crime and revealed that they belonged to a gang of four, two of whom had been previously neutralized. The police recovered N2.25 million, which was part of the requested ransom, along with two locally fabricated rifles and 11 live cartridges.

Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun commended the operatives for their gallantry in apprehending the suspects and emphasized the police’s commitment to improving public security and reducing crime across the nation.

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi praised the police for their swift and effective response in rescuing Mrs. Odumosu. He urged the police to extend the same level of urgency and professionalism to cases involving everyday Nigerians, as many innocent citizens remain victims of abduction without receiving the necessary rescue efforts.

Obi highlighted that this successful operation demonstrates the potential of Nigeria’s security architecture when properly managed and prioritized, proving that a new Nigeria is possible even in the face of challenges.
