A Port Harcourt based Lawyer, Mr. Jack Thompson has decried the spate of killings ravaging Southern Kaduna and further charged that since there is a failure in governance to protect the people, they should protect themselves through democratic process.

This is contained in a statement issued by him which was made available to TheNigeriaLawyer.
“I am not a tribalist. I am not also a religious fanatics, although I am a Christian. I believe in sacred God-Given life to all human beings of all tribes/religions on the earth and the need to co-exist peacefully. All the religions on earth and their adherents say their prayers to Jehovah, Allah, Osanobua, Orishe, Oghene, Olodumare, Chi-ukwu etc as the Supreme God.
“I read with deepest sadness, the stories of perpetual killings of Southern Kaduna people, who are predominantly Christians. Families have have massacred and exterminated. This is not the first time. It has been occurring and re-occurring perpetually.” He said.
Meanwhile, he noted that the bane of religious killing if it cannot be tamed, there should be an exit point through a creation of a new State.
“If the Moslems and Christians are unable to live and co-exist together with equal respect and dignity in Kaduna State, please let them part and go their separate ways. The only remedy to end these ugly and senseless killings is to create a New State called Southern Kaduna State.” He said.
In addition, he stated that in Port Hacourt where he lives, there is no show of hostility to other neighbors as being done in Southern Kaduna.
“I am told, they are predominantly Christians and unable to co-exist with their Moslem brothers that keep manifesting hostilities of all kinds towards them. We have personal contacts with many of them who live here with us in Port Harcourt. We have not noticed any hostility amongst them as our neighbours. They also believe in the co-existence of all the components of Nigerians.”
In another development, he stated that during the agitation for Biafra secession some years back, the Southern Kaduna people living in Port Hacourt were not happy, for fear of being exposed to hostility.
“When the clamour for the Biafran Secession were gathering momentum some years back, the Southern-Kaduna people living in PH, unanimously cried out aloud – Now that the Igbos want to secede and go their separate ways, who would help us in time of emergency? It is the Igbos living in Kaduna that used to hide us and protect us during every massacre executed by the Northern Kaduna Moslem people – many of them cried out publicly.
“They continued to cry aloud daily to God that the Igbos’ quests for Biafra should not materialize so that they can continue to enjoy the brotherhood and protection of the Igbos.” He said.
However, he stated that the efforts of the Government is quite worrisome through its actions.
“With these cries for self-existence and coupled with the installation of the Moslem Deputy Governor by the extreemist the present Governor of Kaduna State (ensuring Moslem-Moslem ticket rather than the usual Moslem-Christain ticket) despite all the cries, admonitions and entreaties from the Imams and their quotations of the several verses from the Holy Koram, the only deduction is that there is grand-plan to exterminate them through un-anounced jihad and possess their properties/lands.” He said.
Charting the way forward, according to him, he noted that the “only remedy “ is creation of a new State.
“We are aware that there are moderates amongst the Moslems’ faith who respect other religions. The only remedy is to use democratic means to create separate state for the Southern Kaduna people.
“At least, if the Nigerian State and the Security Agencies and other Moslems’ brothers abound cannot protect them, they can at-least exist on their own, run their own State-government affairs, create their own Vigillantees like South-West Omotekun and South-East Ogbunigwes to protect themselves.” He said.
“This is in consonance with the Igbos’ self-actualization proverb that a man who has been rejected by the whole world, cannot reject himself. The earlier this is done, the better to forestall possible rebellion.” He added.
Finally, he called on the Senator representing Southern Kaduna & House of Reps member to set the ball rolling for creation of State.
“I am urging the Southern Kaduna Senators and House of Representatives members, to set the machineries in motion for the creation of Southern Kaduna State.” He concluded.
