Six Nigerian Law School students abducted while traveling from Anambra State to Adamawa have been rescued and reunited with their families, the Benue State Police Command confirmed on Friday.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Udeme Edet, the students who were en route to the Yola Campus of the Nigerian Law School were abducted on July 26, 2025, along the Benue-Taraba boundary.

“Please be informed that the police have successfully rescued six law students of the Yola Campus, who were abducted on July 26, 2025, while traveling from Anambra State to Adamawa State. They have been safely released and united with their families this morning, August 1, 2025,” the statement read.

The students’ abduction had sparked outrage, especially after their captors reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦120 million and threatened to kill the victims if the demand was not met.

The latest incident highlights the growing security challenges in Benue State, particularly along major transit routes. Last year, a similar case saw 20 medical students kidnapped while traveling to the University of Jos in Plateau State. They were later released after spending weeks in captivity.

Efforts to curb kidnappings and restore public confidence in road travel remain a pressing concern for authorities across Nigeria, especially in the country’s central and northeastern regions.
