The Movement for Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) has described as provocative, the abduction of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Chief Okey Wali, in Port Harcourt.

Wali was kidnapped last Monday from of the Obiri Ikwerre Flyover along East-West road in Ohio/Akpor local government area of the state when suspected kidnappers hijacked his convoy, killing one of his aides in the process.

Two policemen attached to the former NBA president were seriously injured while chasing the kidnappers.

OSIEND national president, Kennedy West in a statement issued in Port Harcourt yesterday, demanded the unconditional release of the senior lawyer.

West described the abducted former NBA president as a respected citizen who goes about his business and should be given the desired respect.

He said: “We recognise Barrister Okey Wali as a very respected citizen of the state, Niger Delta and Nigeria and a gentleman who goes about his business without hurting anyone. He is a role model and mentor to many. The abductors should regret their action as he does not deserve the trauma he is subjected to.”

The MOSIEND president who expressed disappointment with cases of crime in Rivers State, said such activities would not be tolerated.

West said: “We are worried over the increase in poverty-induced crimes and we condemn the recent skirmishes by cult groups. The actions of these groups are man’s inhumanity to man, foolishness of the highest order and total lack of value for human life.”
