The law graduate Mr Kayode Bello has written a petition to the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee asking it to sanction a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Y.C. Maikyau. According to him, the learned silk should be sanctioned for using his position to misinterpret the literal intendment of the reconciliation process of his case against the Council of Legal Education.

TheNigerialawyer recalls that the reconciliation process between Kayode Bello and the Council had been halted after the Council accused Kayode’s lawyer for fixing the time and place for the meeting for reconciliation between both parties, without consulting them. Counsel to Kayode Bello, had earlier debunked the assertion, claiming that what was in the letter was simply a suggestion which is subject to their overriding convenience.

APRIL 13TH, 2018.
THE HEAD/SECRETARY,
LEGAL PRACTITIONERS’ PRIVILEGES COMMITTEE, NIGERIA.

Dear Sir/ma,

PETITION AGAINST Y.C. MAIKYAU IN THE SUIT: KAYODE BELLO V. COUNCIL OF LEGAL EDUCATION AND INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE

This is to petition against Y.C Maikyau of the Y.C. Maikayu Chambers, Plot 20148, Michael Okpara Street, Akintola Williams House Wuse Zone 7, Abuja, for using his position as the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) to mis-interpret the literal intendment of the reconciliation by my counsel.

The Senior Advocate being one of the Makers of the attached letter in conjunction with other lawyers in his chambers stated that my counsel fixed time and venue for the reconciliation as advised by Justice Quadri of the Federal High Court, Abuja, whereas the meaning of our letter on reconciliation on its surface showed suggestion of time and venue for the reconciliation.

Also, afterwards even with the advice of Justice Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Abuja, the lawyers in the SAN’s office have deliberately scuttled the reconciliation process without any check or sanction by Mr. Y.C Maikyau.

On this note, sir, I hereby pray with uttermost humility that you place appropriate heavy sanction against Y.C Maikyau for abuse of the privilege conferred on him as the senior advocate of Nigeria for scuttling the reconciliation process in the above-named case.

Thank you.

Kayode Bello
