In a bid to curb social vices in society, the Kano State Government has announced plans to review the Kano State Censorship Board Law, aiming to regulate the activities of social media handles within the state.

This disclosure came from Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Isa Dederi, Esq, during a meeting with the Executive Secretary of Kano State Censorship Board in his office on Friday.

The Attorney General expressed concern about the impact of certain films and social media handles on the society’s norms and values, leading to a decline in people’s standard of behavior and eroding the rich cultural heritage of their forefathers.

Haruna Isa Dederi emphasized that the primary responsibility of the Kano State Censorship Board is to ensure that films and literary productions adhere to the state’s religious, cultural, and legal principles.

He assured the ministry’s complete support and cooperation in the review and amendment of the Kano State Censorship Board Law 2019 amendment.

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of Kano State Censorship Board, Alhaji Abba Almustapha, highlighted the purpose of the visit, seeking the Attorney General’s support and cooperation in reviewing the board’s 2019 amendment law.

He pointed out the increasing misuse of social media handles in society, necessitating their inclusion in the law. Platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok, as well as Islamic singers, are to be regulated to prevent the use of inciting words in their songs and literary works.

Abba Almustapha further proposed that printers, TV game centers, and photo laboratories be included in the proposed law amendment. He sought the Attorney General’s assistance in this regard to ensure effective regulation.
