Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, has assured that his relationship with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains cordial, despite the governor’s recent call for his redeployment. Bakori emphasized that both offices are focused on maintaining peace and security in the state.
“All of us are doing our job, and we are still friends and collaborating to ensure the security of lives and property in the state,” he said during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters.
Governor Yusuf had earlier urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to redeploy Bakori following the commissioner’s absence and the reported withdrawal of police personnel from the Independence Day parade ground.
Meanwhile, CP Bakori announced the arrest of nine suspected armed robbers allegedly responsible for a series of violent crimes across Kano, including an incident in which a woman reportedly had a tooth pulled out with a diamond tool during an attack.
“The suspects were involved in several armed robbery operations, including a recent attack on October 8 at a residence in Unguwar Wambai, Dorayi Babba Quarters, Kano, where they stole a Toyota Yaris, N3.7 million in cash, three mobile phones, and other valuables,” he said.
Bakori explained that the arrests followed an initial detention of one suspect at Dorayi Division. The Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS), acting on his directive, subsequently apprehended eight others in Kano and Kaduna States.
Recovered items include a double-barrel gun, an English Falcon pistol, a scrapped Phoenix pistol, iron cutter, cutlasses, knives, torches, and a Toyota Corolla LE. The suspects have confessed to participating in multiple robbery operations in Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano. They will be charged to court upon completion of investigations, with efforts ongoing to recover additional exhibits.
The CP credited the successes to the community-based security initiative, Operation Kukan Kura, which he said has significantly reduced crime across Kano.
“We have seen a geometric reduction in all forms of crime. Mobile phone snatching and robbery are becoming things of the past, while thuggery activities have been largely curtailed,” Bakori added. He commended officers for their professionalism and urged them to maintain the momentum in ensuring public safety.
