A High Court in Kano State has adjourned the trial of former governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and seven others to February 3, 2026, for the hearing of all pending motions.

The Kano State Government has filed an 11-count charge against Ganduje and his wife, Hafsat Umar, accusing them of bribery, conspiracy, misappropriation, and diversion of public funds running into billions of naira.

Also charged are Abubakar Bawuro, Umar Abdullahi Umar, Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Limited, Safari Textiles Limited, and Lasage General Enterprises Limited.

When the case came up on Wednesday, counsel to the state government, Mr. Jedidiah Akpata, informed the court that the prosecution was not ready to proceed. He sought the court’s permission to move a motion for an extension of time.

Akpata told the court that he had filed a motion dated November 19 and filed November 20, 2025, seeking more time to respond to the defendants’ motion for stay of proceedings. He also filed another motion dated November 24 and filed November 25 to respond to the sixth defendant’s preliminary objection.

Counsel to Ganduje, his wife, and son, Mrs. Lydia Oluwakemi-Oyewo, said the defence team was ready to proceed and did not oppose the prosecution’s request for more time.

The counsel representing the third and seventh defendants, Chief M. N. Duru (SAN), also indicated readiness to proceed. Similarly, counsel to the fifth defendant, Mr. Abdul Adamu-Fagge (SAN), said they were prepared, although they had earlier filed an application for a stay of proceedings before the Court of Appeal.

Counsel to the sixth respondent, Mr. Abubakar Ahmad, and counsel to the eighth defendant, Abdulrazaq A. Ahmed, also confirmed their readiness.

Justice Amina Adamu-Aliyu granted the prosecution’s application for an extension of time and adjourned the matter to February 3, 2026, for the hearing of all pending motions.

The case has experienced multiple adjournments on similar grounds.
