The Board of Trustees of Wigwe University has appointed Honourable Justice Amina Adamu Augie, CON, JSC (Rtd), as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council. Alongside her appointment, Professor Marwan Al-Akaidi, CEng, CITP, FBCS, FIET, FIAP, SIEEE, has been named the Vice-Chancellor of the institution.

The announcement was made on Thursday, February 19, 2025, in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, OFR, SAN. Prof. Ajogwu emphasized that these appointments highlight the University’s commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and innovation.

Hon. Justice Augie, a former Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, will succeed Professor Julius Okojie, OON, as Pro-Chancellor. Her extensive legal and academic experience makes her a valuable addition to the University’s leadership. A graduate of the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), she later earned a Master of Laws (LLM) in Criminology from the University of Lagos. With a career spanning academia, judicial service, and the Supreme Court, she is recognized for her integrity and landmark judgments.

Professor Al-Akaidi, an accomplished scholar in Digital Communications and Optical Engineering, has served in various academic leadership roles in the UK and the Middle East. His contributions to research, education, and technological innovation include over 300 publications and supervision of numerous PhD and MSc students.

The Board expressed confidence that both Justice Augie and Professor Al-Akaidi will play pivotal roles in steering Wigwe University toward academic distinction and global competitiveness.
