— Says Mrs. Akpan Is A Barrier Breaker

The Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Women Affairs And Social Welfare has recognized the first female Chairperson of the Nigerian Bar Association [NBA], Uyo Branch, Ms. Eno-Obong Akpan, as an outstanding female lawyer in the State in recognition of her service to the NBA under her leadership and guidance.

The award ceremony which was presented at Ibom Hall grounds by Her Excellency, Dr. (Mrs.) Martha Udom, wife of the Executive Governor on Monday, the 8th day of March, 2021 was part of the events scheduled in commemoration of the International Women’s Day [IWD] Celebration, for 2021.

It is noteworthy that the central message for this year’s International Women’s Day celebration was the appreciation of women and girls [the world over], who are constantly struggling to fill up the wide gap of inequality, as well as ensure the existence of a more equal future for all.

It is noteworthy that until 2019, Mrs. Eno-Obong Akpan, was the Chairman of the NBA, Uyo Branch, and as part of her achievements, Mrs. Akpan had succeeded in the entrenchment of unprecedented financial transparency in the branch affairs, as well as hosting of the National Executive Council meeting in 2017. The promotion of legal scholarship in the branch through the publishing of Uyo Bar Journals, vol.5 and 6 and passionately pursuing the continuing legal education of members of the branch within and outside the state, were some of her other achievements.

Her drive towards continuing legal education saw her sponsoring members of the branch, especially young lawyers to conferences like the Section on Business Law Conference, the Section on Legal Practice, the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators, Administration of Criminal Justice Conference, African Bar Conference, Young Lawyers Conference and a host of others.
