The Supreme Court of Nigeria has directed all legal practitioners handling appeals and motions scheduled for hearing between September and December 2026 to upload the relevant court processes through the Nigerian Case Management System.

The directive was contained in a notice issued and signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabir E. Akanbi.

According to the notice, counsel involved in the affected matters must comply with Rule 10(1) of the Supreme Court Practice Direction, 2026, by uploading all relevant filed documents not later than 30 days before the scheduled hearing date.

The directive applies to appeals and motions already fixed for hearing at the apex court between September and December 2026.

The court explained that the electronic upload requirement forms part of the phased implementation of the Nigerian Case Management System for matters scheduled within the four-month period.

To access the list of affected appeals and motions, lawyers are required to visit the Supreme Court’s official website, select the “Litigation” section, proceed to the Nigerian Case Management System portal, click on “Download Documents” and review the published list of matters scheduled for hearing between September and December 2026.

Counsel must thereafter upload all relevant documents connected to their cases through the electronic platform.

The documents required include the Record of Appeal, Briefs of Argument, pending Motions and every other filed process relating to the matter before the court.

The notice reads in part: “Thereafter, counsel are required to upload all relevant filed documents relating to their matters, including the Record of Appeal, Briefs of Argument, pending Motions, and all other filed processes, not later than thirty days before the scheduled hearing date, as stipulated under Rule 10(1) of the Supreme Court Practice Direction, 2026.”

The Supreme Court urged all affected lawyers to act promptly and ensure strict compliance with the stipulated deadline.

It said compliance was necessary to ensure the seamless operation of the NCMS and facilitate the efficient and timely determination of cases before the court.

The directive is part of ongoing efforts to digitise proceedings at the Supreme Court, reduce dependence on physical documents and improve electronic access to court processes.

TheNigerialawyer had earlier reported that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, launched the Nigerian Case Management System as part of reforms aimed at digitising the apex court’s operations, reducing administrative bottlenecks and strengthening case management.

The NCMS is also expected to improve document access, enhance transparency and reduce delays associated with the physical filing and movement of court processes.

During the launch, the Chief Justice warned legal practitioners against uploading forged, incomplete or false documents to the system.

She said counsel would be required to make formal declarations confirming the completeness and authenticity of every document uploaded through the platform.

The latest directive, therefore, represents another stage in the implementation of the electronic case-management framework and requires lawyers with matters fixed between September and December 2026 to complete their uploads at least 30 days before their respective hearing dates.
