Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced yesterday that Iran will no longer launch attacks on neighbouring countries unless provoked, following approval from the country’s interim leadership council.

In a prerecorded address aired on state television, Pezeshkian apologised to regional nations for the strikes carried out in recent days, attributing the incidents to miscommunication within the ranks.

“The US demand for an unconditional surrender is a dream they should take to their grave,” Pezeshkian said, reiterating Iran’s resolve to defend itself while halting aggression against other nations.

Despite the announcement, repeated attacks were reported early Saturday morning in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, highlighting ongoing tensions in the region.

In retaliation, the Israeli army confirmed a widespread overnight operation across Iran, deploying more than 80 fighter jets and releasing 230 munitions targeting multiple military sites. The strikes reportedly included an IRGC military university, a storage facility for launch infrastructure, and an underground ballistic missile manufacturing and storage site. A verified video by Al Jazeera shows a massive explosion in Nazi Abad, a southern neighbourhood in central Tehran.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia intercepted two drones — one east of Riyadh and another in the Empty Quarter desert approaching the Shaybah oilfield. Saudi air defences have been actively engaging drones and ballistic missiles since early Saturday, reflecting the heightened state of regional security alert.

The escalating hostilities have severely disrupted civilian air travel. Emirates Airlines announced the suspension of all flights to and from Dubai International Airport until further notice. Passengers reportedly sought shelter in train tunnels during explosions at the airport, one of the world’s busiest hubs for international travel. The airline had previously expected to resume full operations in the coming days, but the current conflict has extended flight suspensions.

An explosion was heard over Dubai airport on Saturday followed by a cloud of smoke in the air, a witness told AFP, as Iran pressed attacks across the Gulf.

The Flightradar24 tracking website showed planes circulating above the airport in an apparent holding pattern.

Limited flights resumed from Dubai’s main airport, the world’s busiest for international traffic, on Monday despite daily drone attack.
