– As Wife Appeals To LASG Over Delayed Pension After 33 Years Of Service.

A Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Taiwo Taiwo (now retired), has called on the Government to tackle the remuneration for Judicial officers head-on, describing allowances to federal judges as “poor” and “nothing to write home about”.

Taiwo, J. (Rtd) who made the call during a private family interview with Channels Television noted the imperative of caring adequately for the finance and welfare of Judicial officers to avoid untoward acts unbecoming of judicial officers during or after retirement.

Justice Taiwo who retired from service in July of this year stressed the Government’s duty to take care of its Judicial officers.

Also speaking on the sideline about her lived experience with the Lagos state government, Justice Toyin Taiwo who retired from the Lagos State High Court in September faulted delays by the Lagos State Government in the grant of her pension haven served the government for over 30 years; while acknowledging and commending Government’s efforts in other regards.

Meanwhile, a Source familiar with the matter however described the calls by the Mrs Taiwo as rather unfortunate. Noting that the Lagos state government is concerned about the non-payment of the pension despite the visible delay. The source also used enumerated other acts of the government worthy of commendation.

‘For example, Lagos State is one of the very few States that gives full ownership of houses to its judges. All judges of the Federal courts do not have the opportunity to retire to their own homes. Also apart from the salary Fed Govt pays them Lagos gives them a monthly allowance that is triple their salary.

We also give them a medical allowance, we are midway through buying generators for them, and over 60% of them have gotten the generators. Also every year the entire magistrates and judges in Lagos State go on a retreat abroad. The only arm of government that enjoys this privilege, the source noted.
