Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Wizkid (Ayodeji Balogun) has finally addressed the ongoing online feud with Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti, son of the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti, after days of escalating criticism.

The dispute began last week when Seun Kuti publicly called out Wizkid’s fanbase, known as Wizkid FC, for what he described as disrespectful comparisons between Wizkid and his late father, Fela Kuti. Seun argued that labeling Wizkid as the “new Fela” or implying superiority undermines Fela’s revolutionary legacy in Afrobeat, activism, and cultural impact—insisting such claims are ignorant and amount to an attempt to “steal” or diminish his father’s image. He had previously labeled Wizkid FC as potentially “the most ignorant fanbase in the world” in viral videos and posts.

Wizkid broke his silence on January 20, 2026, via a series of posts on his Instagram Stories (some of which were later deleted). He reposted a video of a supporter defending him, claiming Wizkid has done more to introduce Fela’s work to a younger, global audience. Wizkid then directly responded in Pidgin English with pointed jabs:

  • “Fela fight for freedom this dey fight FC!! I big pass your papa, wetin you wan do? @bigbirdkuti I’m Big Wiz everyday bigger than your papa!! Wetin you wan do?”
  • Additional insults included calling Seun a “pu**y boy,” “fool at 40,” and questioning what Seun inherited from Fela beyond “pant and weed,” while declaring himself greater than Fela.

The remarks have sparked widespread outrage and divided reactions online, with some fans praising Wizkid’s clapback as a defense of his legacy and others condemning it as deeply disrespectful to Fela’s enduring status as an Afrobeat pioneer and activist. Seun Kuti has since fired back, referring to Wizkid as a “short man,” among other retorts, and the feud has drawn in other Kuti family members, including Fela’s daughter Motunrayo Kuti, who criticized Wizkid and his fans for dragging her father’s name into the drama.
