A former National Officer of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Okey Leo Ohagba, has called on the Kano State Government to urgently engage in dialogue with members of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Kano State Chapter, amid the ongoing dispute between the association and the state government.

In a statement titled “Workers Deserve Their Wages,” Ohagba urged the state government to show leadership by listening to the concerns raised by its law officers and taking prompt steps to resolve the impasse.

He warned that the ongoing face-off should not be treated lightly, noting that when law officers withdraw their services, the impact is felt across the justice system and could significantly hinder access to justice for the public.

According to him, the situation calls for sober reflection and immediate attention from relevant authorities.

“This is not a time for pride or hardened positions. It is a time for dialogue and restraint,” Ohagba said.

He emphasised that negotiations should be conducted in good faith, with careful consideration given to the welfare concerns raised by the law officers while also ensuring that essential legal services to the public are maintained.

The former NBA national officer stressed that every worker deserves fair compensation for their services and urged the Kano State Government to respond to the concerns of its law officers with concrete actions.

“A fair response backed by commensurate action from the government would ease this brewing tension, strengthen trust, and reaffirm respect for those who serve the cause of justice,” he added.

Ohagba expressed optimism that the Kano State Government would heed the call for dialogue and work with the leadership of the Law Officers Association to resolve the dispute amicably.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the potential impact of the dispute on the administration of justice in Kano State.

Ohagba concluded by expressing solidarity with the Kano LOAN chapter and called for constructive engagement to restore normalcy within the state’s justice sector.
