President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) Mrs. Comfort Olu Eyitayo (CFA) has announced that the institute would establish an entrepreneurship centre to assist young accountants to set up their businesses and become employers of labour.

Eyitayo announced this during the induction of 743 accounting technicians at the 55th induction ceremony of the Accounting Technicians Scheme (ATS) of the ICAN.

She said: “We are working with all stakeholders to establish an entrepreneurship centre where young and promising members will be given practical or hands-on training to enable them set up their businesses and become employers of labour.”

“We are at a critical junction in history: technology is reshaping our beliefs and understanding. Staying at the frontiers of digital knowledge is a precondition for success in the new normal. There are immense opportunities in the accounting profession for all of you. You only need to add to your professional competences the deepening of your digital skills to be able to fully exploit the opportunities,” Eyitayo said.

She added: “My admonition to the inductees is: this is not the time to rest on your oars.

The sky is large enough, for all who are willing, to secure niches in the highly lucrative and rewarding accounting profession. You must leverage the unique opportunity provided by the ATS certificate to become Chartered Accountants in a record time. In essence, you can become Chartered accountants within the next one year, if you commit to this. This is a privilege I advocate you use prudently and swiftly.”
