The House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee investigating job racketeering within Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) has expressed displeasure at the slow response of approximately 300 parastatals in appearing before the committee to account for their actions.

During a continuation of the hearing in Abuja yesterday, Committee Chairman Yusuf Adamu Gagdi warned that any agency failing to appear before the committee would face consequences.

“Those who appear will have reason to be satisfied. But those who do not appear will face consequences. So, we are not concerned. We are not troubled. We have urged our secretariat to maintain contact with them. We have published today and provided references to the publications.”

“No agency has an excuse for not appearing before us. Whether our letters reached them or not, we have used the media to reach out. So, they should purchase today’s newspaper publication.”

“They will see our invitation and appearance date. For those who have not responded and whose names we have not published, it indicates that the committee has already taken action regarding them.”

Meanwhile, Gagdi questioned the imbalanced employment practices at the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPGMC), highlighting that states like Benue, Rivers, Kebbi, Ogun, Ebonyi, Kano, Oyo, and Taraba were underrepresented.

In response, NPGMC President Prof Akin Osibogun noted that the college received a waiver to employ 37 individuals in 2019, but they were only able to recruit 22.

Gagdi, however, argued that recruiting 22 people did not adequately address the underrepresentation of certain states.

“Your employment process did not address the graphic representation of deficiency. The recruitment exercise should have focused on those states that were underrepresented.”

“Those states should have received more allocation. However, your recruitment list does not reflect that. It does not address the issue presented in your certificate of waiver,” he remarked.
