*As Widow Cries Out To NBA For Justice Over Murdered Lawyer Husband, Says: “Please, I Need Justice”

The widow of slain Imo-based lawyer, Chinedu George Nwowu, Esq., has made a heart-wrenching public appeal, accusing a police officer, Inspector Augustine Odidika, of orchestrating her husband’s cold-blooded murder over a family land dispute.

In a video sighted by TheNigeriaLawyer, Mrs. Amaka Chinedu Nwowu, the grieving wife, alleged that her husband was murdered on January 22, 2025, in Mgbidi, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State, by his own kinsman, Inspector Odidika, who was serving with the Anti-Cult unit of the Nigeria Police Force in Owerri.

“My name is Mrs. Amaka Chinedu Nwaowu, the wife of the late Barrister Chinedu Nwowu from Imo State, who was murdered on January 22 by Inspector Odidika Augustine and his gang,” she said tearfully in the emotional video. “He is my husband’s brother and killed him over a kindred land dispute.”

She further revealed that her husband had received numerous threats, including chilling voice notes allegedly sent by Inspector Odidika, in which he reportedly vowed to “quench” him and ruin his legal career.

In a tragic twist, Mrs. Nwowu disclosed that her late husband had filed a defamation suit against Odidika after he allegedly published damaging material about him online. The matter was scheduled to be heard in court on January 23 — just a day after he was gunned down.

“He executed his plan on the eve of their matter,” she lamented. “Please Nigerians, I’m calling on the NBA to seek justice for my husband who was a learned colleague. Please, I need justice.”

Barrister Nwowu, who served as the secretary of Umuokanumee Village, was reportedly ambushed while returning home on the evening of the attack. Eyewitnesses told TheNigeriaLawyer that he was dragged out of his vehicle, shot multiple times, and left to die on the roadside.

The incident sent shockwaves through the legal community in Imo State and across Nigeria, triggering widespread outrage and demands for justice.

Multiple sources have confirmed that Inspector Augustine Odidika is currently in custody at the Imo State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) along with Uzoma Odidika, Amajuoyi Ireozor, and Azubuike Ireozor. The suspects are said to be part of a group accused of violently harassing members of the Umuokanumee community in a longstanding dispute over communal land, which had been litigated up to the Supreme Court.

A prior petition filed by the deceased’s lawyer, N.C. Ogbonna, Esq., had warned of threats from the suspects and the potential for violence. Tragically, that warning materialized just days later in the form of the fatal attack.

As Mrs. Nwowu’s emotional plea gains national attention, the tragedy has reignited critical conversations about police abuse of power, extrajudicial killings, and the vulnerability of citizens — even legal practitioners — in communal conflicts.
