In a shocking incident on Friday, April 19, 2024, gunmen killed Yinka Olomojobi, a professor of law at Babcock University, Ilishan, and abducted two others in the Iperu area of Ogun State.
According to eyewitnesses, eight men dressed in black and armed with guns emerged from an unknown location and stormed the Ajadeh Event Centre on Sagamu Road, Iperu, at around 9:20 pm. The assailants opened fire indiscriminately, and Prof. Olomojobi was shot in the chest when he reportedly refused to be taken away by the gunmen. The attackers also kidnapped a manager of a car stand, identified as Dare, and another unidentified person.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident and stated that one person, a two-week-old security man named Awada Ishaya from Plateau State, had been arrested based on reasonable suspicion. Odutola added that the police have commenced a discreet investigation into the matter.
Prof. Olomojobi was rushed to Babcock University Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The police are currently working to apprehend the culprits and rescue the kidnapped victims. Further updates on the situation are expected as the investigation progresses.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear at this time, and the identities of the abducted individuals have not been disclosed
