Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has officially joined the Accord Party.

The 33-year-old singer announced his defection on Tuesday via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, aligning his political stance with that of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

Davido’s move comes weeks after Governor Adeleke emerged as the Accord Party’s governorship candidate for the 2026 Osun State election, having been unanimously endorsed by delegates during the party’s state primary.

The award-winning artiste disclosed that he would formally collect his Accord Party membership card on Wednesday at the Imole House in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

“I will be live in Osun to pick up my Accord Party membership card at Imole House Osogbo tomorrow… see you soon accordingly,” Davido wrote.

Governor Adeleke had earlier resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) earlier this month before pitching his tent with the Accord Party. He has stated that his decision to seek a second term is driven by the need to complete ongoing projects initiated since he assumed office three years ago.

Davido has long been a vocal supporter of his uncle’s political career. While Governor Adeleke was still in the PDP, the singer played a prominent role in the 2022 governorship election campaign, mobilising support both physically and through social media.

During the election period, Davido openly criticised alleged electoral malpractices, using his platform to call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the late President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure the integrity of the process.

He also drew widespread attention when the election was declared inconclusive after Governor Adeleke’s initial 353-vote lead over then-incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was considered insufficient, leading to a supplementary poll.

Governor Adeleke eventually won the election following the supplementary vote held on September 27, 2022.

Earlier this year, Davido again publicly backed the governor during a political crisis affecting local government administration in the state.
