A French appeals court has confirmed that Moroccan football star and Paris Saint-Germain defender, Achraf Hakimi, will face trial over an alleged rape incident dating back to 2023.

Hakimi, who is also captain of the Moroccan national team, has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

The case followed a complaint filed in February 2023 by a woman, then 24 years old, in the Val-de-Marne region, southeast of Paris. She alleged that Hakimi raped her after she visited his home.

The Versailles Court of Appeal delivered its ruling on Friday, confirming that the matter should proceed to trial before a criminal court in the Hauts-de-Seine department.

A date has not yet been fixed for the commencement of the trial.

Reacting shortly after the ruling, Hakimi wrote on X that he had been “waiting for this trial since day one.”

“At last, I’ll be able to speak,” he said.

His lawyer, Fanny Colin, said the decision did not amount to a finding of guilt, stressing that Hakimi remained firm in his defence.

“This confirmation was expected. Nothing here says that he is guilty of anything, he remains steadfast in his defence,” she said.

The complainant’s lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, however, said the ruling had brought her client “relief and hope.”

According to reports, the complainant said she met Hakimi on Instagram in January 2023 and later went to his home in a taxi allegedly ordered by the footballer.

She alleged that Hakimi kissed her, touched her without her consent and then raped her. She further claimed that she managed to push him away before sending a text message to a friend, who later came to pick her up.

Speaking publicly for the first time in a Mediapart article published on Thursday, the woman, identified by the pseudonym Jeanne, said she wanted the matter to go to trial so she could be heard.

“I want to explain myself. I want people to believe me,” she said.

Hakimi remains a key figure for PSG and Morocco, whose second match at the 2026 World Cup is scheduled against Scotland.
