*Demands Eradication And Justice

The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria has strongly condemned the alleged sexual harassment of female students by Professor Cyril Osim Ndifon, Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar.

In a scathing press statement, FIDA expressed outrage and disappointment over the handling of the case by the Minister of Women Affairs, Barrister Uju Kennedy Ohanenye.

FIDA categorically denounced all forms of gender-based violence against women, stating that the alleged harassment of female students was a vile act that must be eradicated from educational institutions and society at large.

The organization voiced concern about the rising cases of sexual harassment in Nigerian universities, saying it violates human rights and constitutes sexual victimization. FIDA pointed out such acts have been criminalized under the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act 2015.

FIDA also condemned the alleged intimidation of students who spoke up in the Ndifon case. They criticized Minister Ohanenye for harshly interrogating the vulnerable students, terming her actions “shocking and greatly disappointing.”

The women’s rights group pledged to closely monitor the investigations and any attempts to suppress justice in this case. FIDA called upon the government, law enforcement, civil society and citizens to take a strong stand against sexual harassment and gender violence in all forms.

In conclusion, FIDA urged female students to stand tall and speak their truth. They emphasized that perpetrators must face justice regardless of status. The organization remains committed to defending the rights of vulnerable women and children through legal means.
