In the proposed 2025 budget, the Federal Government has earmarked N1.83 billion to transform properties forfeited from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) into State House quarters in Abuja. This allocation, specifically N1,830,783,061, will cover the acquisition, renovation, and rehabilitation of these properties.

The budget proposal reveals extensive spending plans for various State House facilities. A substantial portion, N5.49 billion, has been allocated for the annual maintenance of the presidential villa, while N120.28 million is designated for renovating State House security quarters.

Presidential and Vice Presidential Accommodations
The budget includes several allocations for high-level government residences:
– President’s quarters renovation: N6.39 million
– Vice President’s official quarters renovation: N466.86 million
– Vice President’s guest house in Asokoro: N298.39 million

Additional State House renovations totaling N49.04 million will cover various facilities, including the State House auditorium, gymnasium, and presidential aides’ quarters in Asokoro, Abuja.

Lagos State House Facilities
The budget also addresses State House facilities in Lagos:
– Lagos Liaison Office maintenance: N14.72 million
– Dodan Barracks and VP guest houses in Ikoyi maintenance
– State House annex at Dodan Barracks renovation and furnishing: N140.10 million

The total renovation budget for presidential, vice-presidential, and staff accommodations amounts to N8.42 billion for 2025.

Background
This budgetary allocation follows a recent major asset recovery by the EFCC, which secured the forfeiture of a 150,500-square-meter estate in Abuja containing 753 duplexes. The property, linked to a former high-ranking government official under investigation, was forfeited through a ruling by Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie on December 2, 2024, under Section 17 of the Advance Fee Fraud Act and Section 44(2) B of the 1999 Constitution.

The substantial spending on renovations and maintenance comes at a time when public discourse increasingly focuses on government expenditure priorities amid national economic challenges.
