The Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has ordered the orderly room trial of four police officers accused of abandoning their assigned duty posts, mounting an unauthorised traffic operation and allegedly extorting ₦52,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN.

The affected officers were identified as Assistant Superintendent of Police Clement Ehigala, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sunday Okpe, Inspector Samuel Onoja and Sergeant Yakubu Emmanuel.
The FCT Police Command disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, who said disciplinary proceedings had commenced against the officers in accordance with established police regulations.
According to the command, the incident occurred at about 3:34 p.m. on July 11, 2026, when the officers allegedly left their lawful duty posts and proceeded to Banex Plaza Junction in Wuse II, Abuja, where they conducted an unauthorised traffic enforcement operation.
During the alleged illegal operation, the officers reportedly stopped a motorist on the claim that he had violated traffic regulations and allegedly collected ₦52,000 from him.
The motorist was subsequently identified as Aliyu, the ICPC chairman.
“During the course of the illegal traffic duty, the officers stopped a motorist on the allegation of violating traffic regulations and extorted the sum of ₦52,000 from him. The victim was subsequently identified as the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN,” the statement said.
Following the complaint, Sanusi ordered the immediate arrest of the four officers and directed that they face an orderly room trial for allegedly abandoning their assigned posts, engaging in unauthorised traffic enforcement and extorting the ICPC chairman.
“Following receipt of the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, PhD, FCAI, ordered the immediate arrest of the four officers and directed that they be subjected to orderly room trial for abandoning their lawful duty posts, embarking on unauthorised traffic enforcement and engaging in the alleged extortion,” the command stated.
Adeh said the disciplinary process reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professionalism, accountability and zero tolerance for misconduct by police personnel.
“The Command has commenced disciplinary proceedings against the officers in line with established police regulations, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, accountability and zero tolerance for misconduct by its personnel,” she said.
The latest development followed an earlier disclosure by Sanusi that the officers had been arrested over the alleged extortion during an illegal stop-and-search operation around the Banex area.
The police commissioner had described the officers as “thieves” who had no business wearing police uniforms, alleging that they deserted their designated duty posts, established an illegal checkpoint and extorted the ICPC chairman without knowing his identity.
Sanusi also warned that any officer found culpable after the disciplinary proceedings would face severe sanctions, including possible dismissal from the Nigeria Police Force.
The orderly room trial is expected to determine the officers’ level of involvement and whether the allegations against them are established under police disciplinary regulations.
