Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, has demanded an immediate retraction and apology from social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as “VeryDarkMan,” over defamatory statements made against him.

In a letter dated September 25, 2024, Falana’s lawyer, Taiwo E. Olawanle, Esq., stated that Otse had published false and misleading statements on his Instagram page, alleging that Falana had spoken to Bobrisky to divert justice and sought a presidential pardon for the sum of N10 million.

The letter further claimed that Otse’s publication implied that Falana’s fight against injustice and corruption in Nigeria was a ruse and that he had engaged in conduct incompatible with his role as a legal practitioner.

Falana’s lawyer emphasized that the Senior Advocate had never spoken to Bobrisky on his alleged pardon or any other matter and that the publication was a “vicious, wicked, and reckless ploy” to impugn Falana’s reputation.

The letter demanded that Otse immediately retract the offensive publication and issue an apology prominently published on all platforms where the defamatory statements were disseminated. Failure to comply within 24 hours would result in legal action, including seeking monetary damages against Otse.

Falana’s lawyer reiterated that while Otse has the right to freedom of expression, he is duty-bound to ensure that what he publishes and disseminates is credible and factual, and that he has no right to damage the reputation of any citizen by spreading baseless allegations based on falsehood.

As of the time of publication, Otse had not publicly responded to the demands. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
