The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, has said both the executive and the legislative arms of the Federal Government are working towards addressing the plight of Internally Displaced Persons.

The Speaker, who said this on Tuesday during a visit to Maiduguri, Borno State, to assess the conditions of the IDPs, stated that the Federal Government was more than committed to ensuring that all IDPs were reunited with their families.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi, on Monday in Abuja quoted Gbajabiamila as saying this.

He said, “If you see me, if you see the House, then you see the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I stand here as the Speaker of the House, but we’re one government.

“We will work together as one government; that should tell you that the issue of IDPs and terrorism is a joint task among all parties, and this will become a thing of the past.

“To all the internally displaced persons, keep hope alive; government is here to support you, the government will do whatever it needs to do to make sure that whatever you’re going through now will soon be a thing of the past.”

Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum, thanked the Speaker for the visit and the magnanimity shown in donating foodstuffs to the IDPs.
