Former Oyo Governor Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala is dead.

He was 71.

Alao-Akala died exactly one month after the demise of the Soun of Ogbomosho.

Unconfirmed source said the former Governor died on Wednesday morning in his sleep.

Another source said the convoy of the former Governor had already been rolled out for a trip to Ibadan before the incident.

The source said concern was raised when the former Governor, who was expected to join the convoy, didn’t come out, forcing some of the aides to rush into the house where he was confirmed dead.

The cause of his death could not be ascertained as at press time.

Alao-Akala was a former police officer and a former Deputy Governor to Chief Rashidi Ladoja. He became governor when Ladoja was impeached. He was a candidate of the ADP in the 2019 governorship election in Oyo State before defecting to the APC.

While, Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde has confirmed the death of one of his predecessors Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala.

Makinde dropped the hint when he was called to deliver a goodwill message at an ongoing interfaith prayers for Oyo workers.

The Governor, who said he got the news at the event, only called for a minute silence.

He also ordered the ongoing programme be brought to an abrupt end.

The former APC chieftain died Wednesday morning in his sleep at his Ogbomoso country home.

He was said to have been in good spirit the night.

The cause of his death remains unknown.
