Evans had on June 28 filed a fundamental rights enforcement suit at the federal high court in Lagos asking the court to compel the police to release him. In the ex parte application with reference number FHC/L/CS/1012/2017, he asked the court to direct the police to either charge him to court immediately or release him from custody unconditionally. He had subsequently filed another suit against the inspector general of police and three other parties, claiming N300 million as general and exemplary damages against the police for “illegal detention and unconstitutional media trial”.
