*Says I Consider Niger Coupists As Terrorists

Amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to overturn the recent military coup that led to the ousting of Niger’s President Mohamed Bazoum, President Alassane Ouattara of Côte d’Ivoire emphasized that the collective actions taken are under the umbrella of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and are not limited to Nigeria’s involvement.

Speaking on Thursday during an extraordinary summit convened by ECOWAS in Abuja, President Ouattara underscored that the intervention to address the coup was a pan-regional initiative, demonstrating the commitment of ECOWAS member states to restore democratic governance in Niger.

“This is not a matter of Nigeria against Niger. Not at all,” Ouattara stated, clarifying that the conciliatory measures being pursued are in line with ECOWAS decisions.

Ouattara expressed that all heads of state within the West African regional bloc had exhausted dialogue efforts with the coup perpetrators and that decisive actions were necessary to rectify the situation.

Describing the military coup as a terrorist act, Ouattara emphasized the collective resolve of ECOWAS to ensure the return of stability and democratic governance to Niger. He reiterated the stance that the coup leaders should be confined to military barracks rather than participating in the government.

In unison with the ECOWAS community, Côte d’Ivoire’s position aligns with the call for the coupists to relinquish their power and restore constitutional order.

President Ouattara’s remarks underline the collaborative and unified approach that ECOWAS is taking to address the ongoing political crisis in Niger, emphasizing that the restoration of democracy transcends individual national interests. The stance also signifies the regional commitment to upholding peace, stability, and the principles of democratic governance within the West African region.
