In a bold move to tackle the rising economic challenges facing legal practitioners, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ado-Ekiti Branch, has officially flagged off the Ekiti Lawyers Cooperative Multipurpose Society. The event took place on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the Afe Babalola Bar Centre, Ekiti State High Court premises.
The initiative, which aims to promote financial stability and economic empowerment among lawyers, is tailored to provide targeted financial services, including access to savings and investment opportunities, loan facilities, and emergency funds.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the NBA Ado-Ekiti Branch, Dr. Taiwo Omidoyin, described the cooperative as a timely response to the current economic realities. “It is our belief that this cooperative society will alleviate financial burdens and improve the overall well-being of our members,” he stated.
According to Dr. Omidoyin, the cooperative will serve as a reliable support system, offering financial security for lawyers and ensuring that members are equipped to handle both personal and professional financial needs.
The launch attracted key dignitaries in the legal and justice sectors, including Hon. Justice E. B. Omotoso and Hon. Justice Blessing Ajileye, both of the High Court of Ekiti State. Also in attendance was Mr. S.B.J. Bamise, the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Ekiti State.
The flag-off ceremony marked the beginning of what stakeholders believe will be a transformative platform for legal professionals in Ekiti and a model for other branches of the NBA to emulate.
