Emperor Ogbonna: Unabated Incarceration Is Not One Of The Ways To Seek Legal Remedies — Dr. Rapulu Ernest Nduka

Emperor Gabriel Ogbonna a practicing lawyer based in Aba was arrested on or about the 24th day of March 2020, reportedly at the behest of the government of Abia State.

Emperor Gabriel Ogbonna’s travails from feelers in the media came as a result of a Facebook post he made on his page insinuating that the Governor of Abia State entered into a diabolical agreement to mortgage the state in favour of the Orji family.

Interestingly, in the said offending Facebook post, Emperor Gabriel Ogbonna clearly referred to an online publication which published the said agreement as the source of the information he published.

Emperor Gabriel Ogbonna Esq. was remanded in Prison custody and later granted bail by the Federal High Court, Umuahia on the 28th day of April 2020.

In a dramatic twist of fate that left many bewildered, soon after the Court gave the nod for his release he was re-arrested and whisked away.

Fingered in this sordid state of affairs is Agbazuere PhD, the Chief of Staff to the State Government who later denied the involvement of the State Government in the macabre dance that has truncated the liberty of Emperor Gabriel Ogbonna Esq citing the DSS as being at the center of the re-arrest in their bid to bring the beleaguered Emperor Gabriel Ogbonna to book for defaming the Presidency!

While it is appreciated the right to redress over defamation in accordance with extant Tort and Penal laws, we dare say that unabated incarceration is not one of the ways to seek legal remedies.

We call on the Government to use legal channels and ventilate its grievances against Emperor Gabriel Ogbonna Esq.

In a democratic setting as ours rule of law offers adequate panacea to all grievances, we reiterate that should be the only course to follow.
