In a strong show of support, eleven former National Officers of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) who served from 2014 to 2016 have endorsed Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, for the position of NBA President in the upcoming election on July 20th, 2024.

The former executives, including Francis Ekwere (1st Vice President), Aliyu Nasarawa (2nd Vice President), Akintokunbo Oluwole (3rd Vice President), Mas’ud Alabelewe (Welfare Secretary), Kelvin Ejelonu (Financial Secretary), Ephraim Adimabua Nweke (2nd Assistant General Secretary), Olatunji Salawu (1st Assistant General Secretary), Cecilia Ugboji (Assistant Financial Secretary), Bisi Ayeni (Legal Adviser), Gbolahon Gbadamosi (Publicity Secretary), and Isah Abubakar Aliyu (Assistant Publicity Secretary), have expressed their confidence in Osigwe’s proactive Bar manifesto and his ability to address the numerous challenges facing the Bar.

The endorsement statement highlights Osigwe’s character, charisma, competence, and deep understanding of the workings of the NBA, qualities they believe are essential for the next President of the Bar. The former officers also cite Osigwe’s perfect blend of experience, dedication, and proactiveness as key factors in their decision to support his candidacy.

Having worked closely with Osigwe during his tenure as General Secretary, the former executives attest to his significant contributions to the successes achieved by their administration. They credit Osigwe with driving laudable initiatives such as the NBA Stamp policy, NBA Health Insurance scheme, NBA Bar Affinity card, and Universal Suffrage.

“We are convinced that he will do greater things if elected as the President on July 20th, 2024,” the statement reads, urging Nigerian lawyers to vote for Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, as the next President of the NBA.
