*”My Priority is Serving Kaduna, Not Baseless Talk,” Governor Sani Responds to El-Rufai’s Accusations

Former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that his successor, Senator Uba Sani, diverted local government (LG) funds to purchase properties in Seychelles, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.

El-Rufai, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), made the claims in an interview with Freedom Radio Kaduna. He accused Sani of converting LG allocations into dollars to finance these acquisitions, asserting that he never interfered with LG funds during his tenure.

“When I was governor, I never took a kobo from local government funds. Once we set aside funds for SUBEB, primary healthcare, and other necessary deductions, we handed over the remaining money. Both PDP and APC chairmen are alive to testify,” El-Rufai stated.

He further alleged that the current administration is siphoning funds under the protection of powerful figures in the presidency.

“No local government in Kaduna receives more than N50 million per month. Once the allocation arrives, they siphon it, exchange it into dollars, and use it to buy properties abroad. We know the bureau de change operators involved,” he added.

El-Rufai also denied ever accepting bribes from contractors, challenging anyone with evidence to come forward.

Governor Uba Sani has not officially responded to the accusations. However, he previously dismissed El-Rufai’s claims, saying his focus remains on governance.

“My priority is serving the people of Kaduna, not engaging in baseless and idle talk,” Sani said during an Iftar meeting with social media influencers.

Meanwhile, former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, challenged El-Rufai to present evidence of the alleged overseas property purchases.

“If El-Rufai has proof that Uba Sani bought properties abroad with public funds, let him provide documents. Otherwise, his allegations are mere distractions,” Shehu Sani stated.

El-Rufai and Uba Sani’s political fallout has intensified since Sani took office. Despite El-Rufai endorsing him as his successor, their relationship soured after the Kaduna State House of Assembly launched a probe into El-Rufai’s administration over alleged misappropriation of N423 billion.

The investigation recommended further scrutiny of financial transactions under El-Rufai’s tenure, a move the former governor described as politically motivated.

The feud escalated further when a former El-Rufai commissioner, Jafaru Sani, was arrested shortly after defecting to the SDP. El-Rufai accused the Kaduna government of using security agencies to intimidate his allies.
