The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested one Nuhu Dahiru for allegedly impersonating an operative of the Commission and defrauding unsuspecting members of the public of ₦3 million in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The anti-graft agency disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying the suspect was arrested by operatives of its Maiduguri Zonal Directorate.

According to the EFCC, Dahiru was apprehended at Tashan Bama, along Bama Road, Maiduguri, following credible intelligence that he had been parading himself as an officer of the Commission to deceive members of the public.

The Commission alleged that the suspect obtained ₦3 million by false pretence through the impersonation.

It added that the entire sum of ₦3 million was recovered from him at the point of arrest.

“The suspect was arrested in Tashan Bama, along Bama Road, Maiduguri, Borno State, following credible intelligence indicating that he had been parading himself as an officer of the EFCC, and thereby defrauding unsuspecting members of the public,” the Commission stated.

The EFCC said Dahiru would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
