Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former Chairman of the Body of Benchers, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, CFR, is set to receive double honours from two leading Nigerian universities in recognition of his outstanding contributions to law and national development.

Nigeria’s foremost legal luminary will be conferred with an Honorary Doctor of Laws (LL.D, honoris causa) by Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) during its 13th Convocation Ceremonies.
Chief Olanipekun, who is also the Asiwaju of Ikere-Kingdom, will deliver the convocation lecture titled “Nigeria Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: The Imperative of a Sober and Definitive Recalibration” on Monday at the Alfa Belgore Main Auditorium of ABUAD.
In a related development, preparations are underway by the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Alumni Association to confer its highest honour — the UNILAG Alumni Platinum Award — on Chief Olanipekun.
The award ceremony is scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event will be chaired by the Ogbeni Oja of Ijebuland, Olor’ogun Dr. Sonny Kuku, OFR, FAS, with Vice President Kashim Shettima as the Special Guest of Honour. The President Worldwide of the UNILAG Alumni Association, Engr. Ifeoluwa Ayodele, FNSE, FAEng, will serve as Chief Host.
Chief Olanipekun currently serves as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Lagos. He has built a sterling career across multiple areas of law, including constitutional, arbitration, and commercial practice.
He founded Wole Olanipekun & Co. in 1980, which has since grown into one of Nigeria’s most reputable law firms with a nationwide presence.
In 1991, he was appointed Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Ondo State, a role he held for two years. He later served as President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) from 2002 to 2004 and was elevated to the rank of Life Bencher in 2007 by the Body of Benchers.
Olanipekun has also chaired governing councils of major institutions, including the University of Ibadan (2004–2006) and Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State.
Over the decades, Chief Wole Olanipekun has played pivotal roles in high-profile cases and election petitions, leaving an indelible mark on Nigeria’s legal and constitutional landscape.
