The National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN), Abuja, on Friday issued an interim order restraining the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) from proceeding with its planned industrial action scheduled to begin on Monday, January 12, 2026.

Justice E.D. Subilim, in the interim order of injunction, barred “all members and agents of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD)” from “calling, directing, organising, participating in, and embarking upon any form of industrial action,” including “strike, work stoppages, go-slows, picketing, or any other form of industrial protest or disruption.”

The court also restrained the association from “taking steps preparatory to any form of industrial action” from January 12, 2026, pending further proceedings in the suit.

According to the order, the injunction “shall remain in force pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice,” which has been fixed for January 21, 2026.

The suit was filed by the Attorney General of the Federation and the Federal Government of Nigeria against the National Association of Resident Doctors, its President, Dr Mohammed Suleiman, and Dr Shuaibu Ibrahim.

NARD had earlier threatened to commence a nationwide strike on Monday, January 12, 2026, a move that had raised concerns over a potential disruption of healthcare services in public hospitals across the country.
