A violent altercation erupted between police officers and Nigerian Air Force personnel at a checkpoint in Jeddo, Delta State, after air force personnel allegedly attempted to free a suspect in police custody.

In a widely circulated video posted on social media, officers from both security agencies were seen exchanging blows, wrestling, and even using the butts of their guns in a chaotic brawl as onlookers filmed the scene.

According to Delta State Police Command spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, the clash occurred while policemen were transporting a suspect found in possession of substances suspected to be codeine, Indian hemp, and Canadian loud.

However, upon reaching the checkpoint, air force personnel, who allegedly knew the suspect, intercepted the officers and demanded his release. When the police refused, the air force personnel reportedly attacked them.

Describing the incident as “unfortunate,” Edafe assured the public that both security agencies were working to prevent a recurrence.

“This issue is being handled. We recognise the cordial relationship we have with the Nigerian Air Force in Delta State.
