The Chief Judge of Delta, Justice Marshal Mukoro, has blamed the rise in crime in the society to lack of birth control and poor parental upbringing of their wards.

Justice Mukoro who made the statement at the weekend during the lunch/presentation of the book titled ‘The Great Ughele Kingdom’ by Olorogun Miller Uloho, in Ughelli, Delta State, said he was alarmed at the high number of Urhobo indigens held at the five correctional centers in the state.

He said, “Crime and insecurity is on the rise today because people are just giving birth because they can without thinking about how to raise the children.

“You see a Keke riders giving birth to five, six, seven children; you ask how is he going to train them. At the end you see these children growing up to cause problem in the society because they lack proper discipline and care.”

The Chief Judge who was the chairman of the event, commended the author of the book Chief Miller Uloho for writing the book which he noted would change for the better how people perceive the Ughelli Kingdom, adding that a lot of Ughelli indigens has not knowledge of their culture and ancestral history.

The author, Chief Miller Uloho said he was challenged to write the book in the face of so many misinformation and misconception about the Ughelli Kingdom, dedicating the book to the Traditional Ruler of Ughelli Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Wilson Ojakovo, The Oharisi III.

He disclosed the that true name of the kingdom was ‘Ughele’ and not ‘Ughelli’, adding that the name was changed over a century ago by the British administration of Lord Fredrick Luguard who made Ughelli an administrative center.

Also speaking, the President General of Ughelli Descendants Union (UDU), Chief Pius Omubaye described the book as expository, adding that it would help a lot of persons especially Ughelli indigenes know more about their history and retrace their ancestral home.
