A rights activist and convener of Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju, has criticized opponents of the planned nationwide strike, asserting that the devaluation of the Nigerian currency, the naira, is sufficient reason for the protest.

In a recent interview with Vanguard’s digital unit, Adeyanju highlighted the dire state of the nation’s economy, pointing out that “N100,000 is now worth N10,000” due to the government’s misguided fiscal policies.

Adeyanju questioned the logic behind discouraging people from protesting, given the current economic hardships faced by Nigerians. “The Naira is almost worthless because of bad policies,” he stated, emphasizing the urgent need for citizens to express their discontent through peaceful demonstrations.

This statement follows Adeyanju’s earlier remarks to Vanguard, in which he identified “hunger, poverty, and corruption” as the true catalysts behind the planned protests. His comments came in response to the federal government’s accusations that opposition leaders were orchestrating the nationwide hunger protests.

Despite warnings from the Nigerian government and security agencies, various groups and individuals across the country have been encouraged to participate in the protests. Adeyanju’s stance on the matter has garnered support from those who believe that the government’s economic policies have led to widespread suffering among the populace.

As the naira continues to lose value and the cost of living soars, many Nigerians are growing increasingly frustrated with the government’s apparent inability to address the nation’s economic woes. The planned nationwide strike serves as a platform for citizens to voice their concerns and demand action from their leaders.
