The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has disclosed the possibility of taking Senator Ifeanyi Uba to court for dumping the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) when there is no crisis in the party.

The party has also warned the senator who represents Anambra South in the Red Chamber of the National Assembly that it wouldn’t tolerate a situation where the party would be used as a pawn in the political chess game.
Speaking on Arise TV on Thursday, Egbeola Wale Martins, the National Publicity Secretary of the party said, “It’s the prerogative of the National Working Committee (NWC) to take a decision on legal action. As it stands I can tell you that we are already consulting and engaging.
We’re seeing the possibility of going to court on this matter. I want to tell you that it’s a symbiotic relationship, the party cannot go into an election without a candidate, and never can a candidate go into an election without a political party. The fact remains and it is quite clear that in leaving a political party, you’ll leave on the basis of issues within the political party.
“As it stands you can do your own investigation. We don’t have a crisis in our party. How easy it is to know that a party is having issues, you just google YPP and you will see things that are going on in the party. These are things that cannot be unobvious to the press. Nobody should try and test our resolve.
“For those who don’t know the YPP, it is a party that knows its onus because of the capacity of those who are at the helm of affairs. You can fact check. The YPP is the only party that went on two independent protests against the draconian leadership of the immediate past president,” he said.
While reacting to one of the reasons Uba gave for leaving the party on the basis of fair treatment of the South-East by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the YPP, Egbeola said, “One thing that one shouldn’t take away is the fact that YPP shouldn’t be used as a pawn in this political chess game.
“To say that we haven’t been fair to the South-East is not correct. It’s what the YPP won’t accept. We’ve been fair to all sections of the country. If there is anything that we want to eradicate, it is this issue of bringing primordial sentiments such as ethnicity and religion into politics. It’s also why we stand out as a political party that sees the need for us to bring service to the people,” he added.
