Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District, has announced plans to initiate legal proceedings against social media influencer Timothy Gabriel, also known as Tuma, over what he described as defamatory and misleading allegations against him and his wife, actress Regina Daniels.

In a statement released by the Ned Nwoko Media Directorate on Saturday, the senator said Gabriel had openly challenged him and his wife to respond to his claims and invited legal action — a challenge Nwoko says he has now accepted.

“No individual has the right to hurl baseless and vulgar accusations against another citizen and then hide behind social media antics or street protests to evade accountability,” Nwoko stated.

He condemned Gabriel’s repeated attacks as “vile, reckless, and malicious,” accusing him of dressing lawless behavior in the guise of activism or press freedom.

“Gabriel not only spewed defamatory lies against Regina Daniels, my wife and accomplished actress, but also myself, and he did so repeatedly, with clear intent to provoke, incite, and destroy reputations,” the statement said.

The senator emphasized that freedom of speech does not include the freedom to defame, blackmail, or incite hatred, warning that those who think they can use the internet to assassinate character without consequences are mistaken.

“My legal team, also representing Regina Daniels-Nwoko, is already taking every step necessary to prosecute Gabriel and his enablers through every legal means available,” Nwoko added. “This includes both criminal defamation and civil suits, for which the evidence is overwhelming.”

He described Gabriel’s comments regarding paternity and morality as “false, dangerous, and criminally prosecutable.”

The lawmaker also cautioned those defending Gabriel’s conduct under the guise of human rights advocacy, reiterating that free speech does not protect lies and reputational harm.

“Mr. Gabriel and any co-conspirators should prepare to face the law in the most decisive manner. The real trouble has only just begun and it will not be fought on social media, but in court, through the strength of evidence and the rule of law,” he said.

Nwoko concluded with a warning: “Let the public be assured; defamation is not activism, and I will ensure that the lines are drawn clearly in the courtroom.”
