The just-concluded meeting between the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Federal Government has ended in a deadlock, with SSANU insisting that the strike action continues.

On Wednesday, the National President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim, said the strike continues tomorrow.

Recall that SSANU and NASU embarked on a seven-day nationwide strike on Monday to protest the refusal of the Federal Government to pay their four-month salaries withheld for embarking on a strike action in 2021.

Ex-President Buhari refused to pay their salaries because they refused to work, meaning they were not entitled to salaries, Buhari insisting on the principle of ‘No work, no pay’.

President Bola Tinubu’s administration reversed the ‘no work, no pay’ policy of the previous administration and released the salaries of members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that were previously withheld.

However, this action did not please SSANU and NASU, who felt that their members should also be compensated for their work.

Despite repeated demands for better pay and conditions, the government continued to ignore the needs of SSANU and NASU members. In response, the unions initiated a strike to force the government to take action.
