The Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command, has identified and paraded two officers for misconduct and the maltreatment of civilians.

This follows the circulation of a viral video showing two officers assaulting civilians in the Seme axis.

The Customs Area Controller for the Seme Command, Kolade Kayode, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

He assured the public that the officers, identified as Superintendent of Customs TA Inemugha and Assistant Superintendent of Customs II GO Aboribo, would be handed over to the Customs Police Unit for further investigation.

Speaking through the Deputy Controller of Enforcement at the command, Istifanus Musa, the CAC emphasised that the conduct of the officers does not reflect the professional standards of the service.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that two officers, namely, Superintendent of Customs TA Inemugha and Assistant Superintendent of Customs II GO Aboribo, have been identified and arrested. These two erring officers will be handed over to the Customs Police Unit for further investigation,” the CAC stated.

He lamented that this development is particularly disheartening at a time when the service is striving to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.

According to him, the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, has strongly condemned the unethical conduct of the officers and directed their transfer to the NCS headquarters for a full-scale investigation and decisive disciplinary measures.

The CAC added that the complainants involved in the incident have been requested to assist with the ongoing investigation.

Kayode reaffirmed the service’s commitment to maintaining transparency in its operations and warned that no form of misconduct within its ranks would be tolerated as it strives to serve the public interest.

Earlier on Monday, the command announced that it had launched an investigation into the viral video showing officers assaulting civilians.
