APC spokesman, Mr Lanre Issa-Onilu.

— Sympathizes With Ondo State On Explosion

The All Progressives Congress APC has justified President Mohammadu Buhari’s failure to regularly brief Nigerians on what the administration is doing to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus pandemic, saying that the vast majority of the population voted a working President, not a talker.

As has been the practice across the globe, Presidents or their equivalents daily give their citizens updates on the situation disease in their countries as well mitigation and containment strategies put in place to reduce the impact of the ravaging scourge.

Even from Isolation, Covid-19 positive British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson said he is stilling leading the charge against the pandemic.

However, APC insisted that majority of Nigerians who voted Buhari are not disappointed with what they choose;, a working and not a talking President.

Rather than engaging in frivolous talk, APC’s Lanre Issa Onilu said Buhari is leading the charge as a commander, mobilizing human and material resources against Covid -19.

“A few Nigerians want a President whose preoccupation is talking; while the majority voted for a President who is deploying his energy to working. We all can see the effect of the grand efforts being led by President Muhammadu Buhari to contain the coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic in Nigeria.

“Like a legendary troop commander that the President is, he is steadily and vigorously leading the charge against the coronavirus pandemic. With our President mobilising human and material resources, we, as a country, are doing commendably so far as statistics are showing in comparison to even most advanced nations”.

He said the strategy is already showing good result in that the field workers are getting the measure of positive result while state actors, corporate and private individuals contribute their quota in driving the fight against the pandemic.

“Under the keen supervision of the President, there is a visible and proactive network of national response structures working in tandem with all states.

“The efficiency of the field workers and other state actors has ensured we are able to minimize the spread so far with many states taking proactive steps to forestall widespread of the very infectious virus.

“We are glad to see many Nigerians rallying behind the President with their own contributions. Notably, the news of the ministers’ voluntary donation of 50 per cent of their March salary is unprecedented. We commend the foresight of the Minister of State for Transportation, Sen. Gbemisola Saraki in coordinating this patriotic action.

“Beyond the monetary donation, the gesture by the ministers would bolster confidence of ordinary Nigerians to call up the resilience for which we are known for. It would also encourage many more organisations and other well-to-do Nigerians to lend support to the Presidential committee.

In a related development, the party has also sympathized with the government and people of Ondo State over the explosion that occurred at Ilu-Abo which destroyed property there.

The party particularly hailed Governor Rotimi Akeredolu for his prompt visit for an on the spot assessment of the damages.

While cautioning against “unnecessary and unfounded conspiracies surrounding the unfortunate explosion” Onilu said the “accidental explosion occurred in a vehicle transporting explosives to a storage facility in a neighbouring state”.

APC urged the state government to put in place measure to ease the pains of the victims.
