A Chief Magistrate Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has issued an order to remand prominent social media influencer Reno Omokri and three others in prison custody over alleged defamation charges.

The others facing the same charges include former Dunamis Church Pastor Abraham Daniel, Mr. Enenche Idoga Alexander, and Oboyinlo Enenche Peter.

The ruling was delivered by Chief Magistrate Emmanuel Ayanna on January 13, 2025, following an ex-parte motion filed by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, through his counsel, Francis Gabriel, Esq.

In Motion No. ME/07/2025, the court granted the request for a remand warrant, directing the respondents to remain in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service pending investigation and subsequent arraignment.

The court order states:

  • “The Respondents, namely Mr. Daniel Abraham, Mr. Enenche Idoga Alexander, Oboyinlo Enenche Peter, and Mr. Reno Omokri, are to be remanded in custody pending the conclusion of the investigation and their arraignment before a court of competent jurisdiction.”
  • “The Respondents must be produced in court on the return date of January 30, 2025.”

Omokri, known for his polarizing views on political and religious matters, has faced criticism in the past for his outspoken commentary.

Further proceedings are scheduled for January 30, 2025, when the respondents will appear before the court.
