The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced Solomon Odigie Moses, who presented himself online as a spiritual leader, to one year in prison for defrauding an Indian woman of $1,100 through a fictitious TikTok account.

Justice C.N. Nwabulu convicted Moses on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, after he pleaded guilty to a one-count charge bordering on cheating and falsely presenting himself as a spiritual leader.
The court sentenced him to one year imprisonment with an option of a ₦300,000 fine and ordered the forfeiture of the $1,100 identified as proceeds of the offence to the victim, Sharon Kaur, through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
According to a statement by the EFCC, Moses, also known as “Dr Solomon,” created a fictitious TikTok account through which he held himself out as a spiritual leader capable of offering prayers and other spiritual assistance.
The commission said he used the account to establish contact with Kaur and subsequently obtained money from her under the guise of providing spiritual help.
Moses was later arrested in Ekpoma, Edo State, after allegedly receiving the $1,100 through his Zelle payment platform. The EFCC said the naira equivalent of the money was subsequently transferred into his Nigerian bank account.
The commission further alleged that during his interaction with Kaur, Moses persuaded her to undergo what he described as a spiritual bath while naked.
According to the EFCC, he secretly recorded the session without her consent and thereafter threatened to make the video public unless she paid him money.
The anti-graft agency said its investigation established that Kaur paid Moses $1,100 to prevent him from publishing the recording.
The payment was subsequently identified as proceeds connected with the offence for which Moses was prosecuted.
The charge against him stated that sometime in 2026 in Abuja, Moses, while operating under the name “Dr Solomon,” falsely represented himself as a spiritual leader through a fictitious TikTok account and obtained $1,100 from Kaur under the pretence of providing spiritual prayers and assistance.
The prosecution said the conduct was contrary to Section 321 of the Penal Code Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990, and punishable under Section 322 of the same law.
When the charge was read to him, Moses pleaded guilty.
Following the plea, prosecution counsel Maryam Hayatudeen urged the court to convict and sentence him in accordance with the law.
Justice Nwabulu consequently convicted Moses and imposed a one-year custodial sentence, with an option of a ₦300,000 fine.
The court further directed that the $1,100 recovered as proceeds of the offence be returned to Kaur through the EFCC.
The order effectively requires the anti-graft agency to facilitate restitution of the identified funds to the victim.
