The Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, has convicted and sentenced Fidelix Samuel Ebuka to eight years and three months’ imprisonment for laundering more than ₦90.9 million.

Justice Yellim Bogoro delivered the judgment on Friday, July 17, 2026, after Ebuka changed his plea from not guilty to guilty.

The court gave the convict an option of paying a ₦8.5 million fine and additionally ordered him to undertake two weeks of community service in respect of the final count against him.

Justice Bogoro also ordered the forfeiture of two Mercedes-Benz vehicles, four iPhones, a gold chain and two HP laptops recovered from Ebuka to the Federal Government.

The forfeited properties include an iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone XR, iPhone 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro Max, a Mercedes-Benz G65 and a 2014 Mercedes-Benz ML.

The Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission prosecuted Ebuka on charges bordering on retaining proceeds of unlawful activities amounting to ₦90,989,517.

He was initially arraigned before Justice Bogoro on June 10, 2026, over allegations that he retained the money in his Union Bank account despite having reason to know that it formed part of the proceeds of an unlawful activity.

The commission alleged that the offence contravened Section 18(2)(d) and was punishable under Section 18(3) of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022.

One of the counts alleged that Ebuka directly retained the ₦90.9 million in his Union Bank account on or about April 15, 2026, within Lagos.

When the charges were initially read to him, Ebuka pleaded not guilty, prompting the court to adjourn the matter for further proceedings. Earlier reports on the arraignment also stated that he was remanded in a correctional facility pending consideration of his bail application.

At the resumed proceedings on July 8, Ebuka reversed his earlier position and changed his plea from not guilty to guilty.

Following the new plea, EFCC prosecuting counsel Bilkisu Buhari asked the court to convict and sentence him in accordance with the charges.

Justice Bogoro subsequently found Ebuka guilty and imposed a cumulative sentence of eight years and three months’ imprisonment, with the option of a ₦8.5 million fine.

The court further ordered him to perform two weeks of community service in relation to count 14.

In addition to the custodial sentence and fine option, the judge directed that the electronic devices, jewellery and luxury vehicles linked to the convict be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.
