The Nigerian Bar Association has called on members of the legal community to submit a Memoranda to strengthen the NBA Constitution.

This was made known to in press statement dated the 1st of July, 2019 and signed by the Programme officer, Edidong Peter Eyoh.

NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION CONSTITUTION & ELECTORAL REVIEW COMMITTEE: INVITATION TO SUBMIT MEMORANDA FOR CONSIDERATION BY THE COMMITTEE

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Paul Usoro SAN, on the 9th day of June, 2019 constituted the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Constitution & Electoral Review Committee comprising Prof. Fabian Ajogwu, SAN (Chairman); Solomon Umoh, SAN (Alternate Chairman), Titilayo Akinlawon, SAN, Seye Opansanya SAN, Ibrahim Aliyu Nassarawa, Henry Chidi Onyuike, Ekpenyong Ntekim, Asamah Kadiri, David Karshima, Nkoyo Amah, Aji Bubakari Kamale, Suleiman Shuaibu, Adamu Aliyu Umar with Edidiong Peter Eyoh representing the NBA National Secretariat on the Committee.

Following the inaugural meeting of the Committee on Monday, June 17, 2019 in Lagos, I have been directed by the Chairman of the Committee, Professor Fabian Ajogwu SAN to write and call for Memoranda from our members on the subject.

The specific areas of interest to the Committee and which the Committee invites memoranda are as follows:

1. Institutionalization of Corporate Governance:
2. Institutionalization of Financial Accountability, Transparency and Reporting Systems
3. Electoral Process.

In view of the above Terms of Reference and the very short timeline of 60 days (from the date of appointment) given to the Committee to deliver on the assignment, the Committee has unanimously agreed that memoranda be submitted by the legal community for consideration on how best to strengthen the Constitution of the Nigerian Bar Association to meet best international practice in line with the identified key areas, within 14 days from July 1, 2019.

All memoranda must not be more than 6 pages, using 12 font size of either Arial or Times New Roman; and must be limited to the subject matters specified above and marked accordingly.

The memoranda are to be submitted in soft copies and by e-mail addressed to: peter.edidiong@nigerianbar.org.ng; with ookafor@kennapartners.com in copy on or before 6:00 pm on Monday, July 15, 2019.
